Mama's back on meds

As many of you know, I take an antidepressant. Because of trying to conceive, I decided to at least try weaning off it. Well, after two weeks at a half dose, I went without for two whole days... and had a huge anxiety attack today, complete with yelling at my dear, darling (fussy, clingy) daughter. This was not ok, so I'm going back on a half dose until further notice.

I wish my brain chemistry didn't need help this way, but it does. *sigh*

Depending on what you are taking, you don't have to go off while TTC or while pregnant. As my doctor told me (more than once), there are very few (if any) risks with certain SSRIs in babies, whereas the known risks of being depressed/anxious during pregnancy are well known. And not good.

You do what you need to in order to be healthy for yourself, you daughter and your future child(ren).

I'm on Zoloft, which is said to be relatively safe; they just didn't want me starting it initially until after the first trimester. My CNM said nothing about going off it, although he knew we were planning to be not not trying; I asked my primary care, and he said to try to go off it if I could. Well, I tried, and off it totally was not worth it! So I'm going to a low dose.

You need to take care of yourself. Not just for your daughter, but for you. You are important, and if you need to be on antidepressants right now, you need to be on them. I wish there were something that works well with TTC... it's a bummer, but what can you do.
